| Introduction |
1.2083 Tool Steel is martensitic stainless steel with 12% Chromium which is sufficient to give good corrosive resistance properties. It's best corrosive resistance is when hardened and surface is ground or polished. It has good ductility in the annealed condition but can be hardened up to 500HB (highest of the chromium grades). Martensitic Grades are known for high hardness and allowances must be made for poor weldability and usually, allowances for a final harden and temper treatment. Steel is magnetic and welding is not recommended. |
2.Fabrication and Heat Treatment
Heat Treatment:
Forging: 1.2083 mold steel are forged at 1093°C (2000°F) down to 899°C (1650°F). Forging below 871°C (1600°F) is not recommended for these steels.
Annealing: 810 - 830 °C
Hardness after annealing: Max230 HB
Stress-relieving: Approx. 650 °C
Hot forming: 1050 - 850 °C
Hardening: 970 - 990 °C
Quenching media: Oil, Vacuum
Hardness after quenching: 30-36 HRC

3.Application
Molds for corrosive plastic materials such as PVC, recycled polymers etc., molds for chemically aggressive plastics and plastics containing abrasive fillers, mold inserts, dies and gauges for PVC extrusions, screws and barrels for extruders, molds for automotive, food, medical and optical industry such as spectacles, compact discs, lenses.

5.Feature
1.Vacuum degassing refining processing steel purity, suitable for polishing or etch processing plastic mold.
2. In pre-harden state delivery, no need for heat treatment can be directly used for mold processing, shorten the construction.
3. After heat treatment machining and polishing performance is good, the nitriding treatment, can be suitable for chrome plating surface treatment, such as material is the qualitative hardness is uniform (400mm thick), good toughness and good machining performance.
4.Good hardness uniformity and polishing property, good machining properties.
5.Good integral mechanical performance under high temperatures.
6.Good heat-resistance and fatigue-resistance.
7. Pre-hardened to HRC30-36 can be directly used for mold processing, shorten the construction period.
